RIHANNA: Details Night of Beating on 20/20
Rihanna’s 20-20 interview Friday night was surprisingly candid, as she confirmed reports that a text message from another woman led to her beating at the hands of Chris Brown in February. She told A-B-C’s Diane Sawyer, “I caught him in a lie. And he wouldn’t tell the truth… I couldn’t take that he kept lying to me. And he couldn’t take that I wouldn’t drop it. And…it was ugly.” She also recalled “fending” Brown off with her feet once the beating began and thinking, “I just wanted it to stop. I kept thinking, ‘When is this going to end?’”
Rihanna also recounted how she called-off her reconciliation with Brown. “I just said to him, ‘I can’t do this.’ I resented him. I resented him so much… He knew it. He kept asking me, ‘You hate me, don’t you? You hate me.’ And I would lie and I would say, ‘No, no.’ And I did hate him. Everything about him annoyed me. So finally I just said, ‘We can’t do this. I cannot continue to do this.’”
RIHANNA: Shame on ABC
Rihanna was embarrassed and ashamed about reconciling with Chris Brown following the brutal beating she suffered at his hands last February. During the first part of her interview with A-B-C’s Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America yesterday, she said, “That’s embarrassing that that’s the type of person that I fell in love with, so far in love, so unconditional that I went back…You start lying to yourself. The minute the physical wounds go away, you want this thing to go away, this is a memory you don’t want to have ever again.” But the message she feared she might be sending to young female fans finally helped her walk away for good. “I couldn’t be held responsible for telling them, ‘Go back.’ Chris, even if Chris never hit me again, who’s to say that their boyfriend won’t?” Part two of the interview airs tonight on A-B-C’s 20/20.
